“For me, music is food for my soul”. Marcus Hernon

Pure Connemara Ancestoral Dance Music

About Me

My name is Marcus Hernon. I was born in Rusheenamanagh, Carna, Connemara, Co. Galway. I was born on the 31st March 1959. I don’t remember when I started playing music but I strongly believe that music was in my genes. My mother told me that when I was in her womb, that whenever she heard a tune on the radio I would start kicking. She always knew that I would be a musician, dancer or singer. She told me that I started playing the Penny Whistle when I was 5 years old. I continued playing the whistle until I was sixteen years of age at which time I took an interest in playing another instrument, the flute. I honestly took the easy way because it was the same fingering as the Penny Whistle and all I needed was to work on the blowing of the instrument. I bought an Eb Flute from Paul Davis not knowing the difference between an Eb Flute and D Flute. Paul Davis used to travel around the country selling flutes at the time.
Marcus is joined by his Brother PJ Hernon on the "Grouse in the Heather" CD. P.J. is a man who is highly respected in the World of traditional music. This is a beautifully produced album and it has brought me great pleasure.
